They deserve another chance
Nicole Scherzinger: I will never understand why she just can’t breakthrough as a solo artist. Ok, so its more like a 4th chance, but still. The girl started off in reality TV formed girl group Eden’s Crush (still a fave of mine), which disappeared as quickly as they debuted. Then she showed up years later as the lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls, which were very successful, but they didn’t get along enough to make it past the second album. Nicole has struggled to make it on her own, the first solo album was scraped and canceled due to lack of quality and three flop singles. She made it in Europe with her second album, Killer Love, but in spite of a spot on the first US season of XFactor, she never released it stateside. Though a few singles were released here, all of which flopped. She needs to make it, she is sexy, funny, and a great singer and dancer. She just needs the right sound and the proper promotion.
Rachel Stevens: Ok, again its a third chance. She came out, originally, as the hot chick from S Club 7. Though she only sang lead for a few of the groups songs (unsurprisingly it was the sexier material), she did decide to go solo after the group decided to split up. Her first album was a moderate success, having a few hit singles. Her second album, had a few it singles but the sales were overall very disappointing and she never released anything again. This is a bummer considering how great that second album (Come and get it) was. I know there was a bit of a S Club reunion in the UK, but I’m more interested in Rachel coming back and being hot.
Watch her perform “Some Girls” on Top Of The Pops
Travis Garland: This guy just has it. Originally her came out in boyband NLT, a talented young quartet which also included Kevin McHale before he was on Glee. The boys just came out a few years too soon, the US was in no mood for boybands yet and pop music wasn’t on top of the charts at the time. The band disbanded, Kevin went to TV, and Travis tried to make it on his own. I don’t know what the hold up has been. He’s got the looks, the voice, and the dancing down. The biggest thing he’s done on his own is randomly perform his song “Believe” on an episode of American Idol. He needs a label to take more interest in him and give him the proper push he needs.
Watch his absolutely amazing cover of Beyonces ‘1+1’
JYJ: This is an interesting one. A South Korean boy band which was formarlly 3/5 of super mega pop group TVXQ. These boys ditched the label and stuck together and decided to give the US a crack. Unfortunately the boys had a lot of issues, the former label suing them, confusing tour dates, no longer the support of a major label, and a horrible horrible Kanye West track, which ( desperate for the media coverage it would get them) became the first single. The boys need to completely re-do their US debut. They need a label behind them in order to crack the US market. Theres lots of talent here.
Watch JYJ perform ‘Empty’ for Billboard Magazine
Kerli: Ok…maybe Kerli is too cool to be on this list. But any chance to promote my girl, I will use it. She originally came out in 2008, with an Evanescence type of pop rock emo sound. Nothing really took in the mainstream, and the album didnt really take off. Years later, Kerli created her own community of fans on the internet. A small devoted group of fans she calls Moonchildren. With a slowly growing fanbase (that is substantially bigger now than when she released her first CD) , Kerli has reinvented herself as a Dance diva. Part Gaga, Part Hatsune Miku, but complelty Kerli. A small spot on the Disney soundtrack for Alice In Wonderland with a song called Tea Party gave a hint at what was to come. Then she released Army of Love, which became an underground pop hit, and went #1 on the dance charts. Zero Gravity took it even further and now we await the next album. Hopefully the label will properly promote her and she’ll get the recognition she deserves.
Watch her great video for ‘Zero Gravity’
Adrienne Bailon: Originally a part of girl group 3LW, which fell apart by the time their 2nd album came out. Years later she joined the Disney family and became a Cheetah Girl. The group had three successful movies and soundtracks, and the group (Minus Raven Symone) released a christmas album, and finally their own proper record TCG. Other than that you may have seen her on a couple episodes of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, when she dated Rob Kardashian. She’s released a couple stuff on her own, but nothing big. She has an amazing voice, and I think she can really go far.
