White: The Melody of the curse (2011) [South Korea]
I’ve been wanting to watch this for as long as I heard about it. It mixes my favorite things; Kpop, Girl Groups, and Horror. I enjoyed the movie very much but I have to be honest. It wasn’t all that scary, and the story was very typical of every asian “curse story’. Discover the curse, try to solve the old murder/suicide, and break the curse. What I loved about the movie was the pop band story line. I always enjoy a good girl group story. This one is filled with ego, competition, and sleeping your way to the top. It also awesomely stars a pretty girl from T-Ara (Eunjung), a popular korean girl group. She actually is the main star and does a great job, she’s beautiful. It also features lots of aspects to the story that are unique to the South Korean pop world. The fight for the main spot, the years in training, the competitiveness with other pop groups, and the controlling managers, and fickle audience. The soundtrack is great and there is a cameo from After School (!) Its like Cheetah Girls, Dreamgirls, and the Grudge combined. Love it.
